SRH vs RR Preview, IPL 2025: Formidable Sunrisers Hyderabad face Rajasthan Royals in Hyderabad | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) are all set to kick off their IPL campaign against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Sunday.
With a well-rounded team comprising explosive batsmen and a formidable bowling lineup, SRH enter the contest as clear favourites. Their batting firepower, featuring Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen, is expected to thrive in the favourable conditions, making them prime contenders to post a mammoth total.

Abhishek Sharma’s recent blistering form, including a sensational 135 off 54 balls against England in a T20I, underlines his ability to take the game away from the opposition. The return of Indian all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy from injury further strengthens SRH’s lineup. With a mix of experience and firepower, the batting unit could realistically aim for an unprecedented 300-run mark if they bat first.
Last season, SRH surpassed 250 runs thrice, including a record-breaking 287 against Royal Challengers Bangalore and 277 versus Mumbai Indians. The combination of Abhishek and Head also set an IPL powerplay record of 125 against Delhi Capitals.
On the bowling front, SRH captain Pat Cummins leads a potent attack alongside pace ace Mohammed Shami and crafty leg-spinner Adam Zampa. Their experience and skill will be crucial in containing the Royals’ lineup, which appears significantly weakened by the absence of captain Sanju Samson due to a finger injury. Riyan Parag will take on the captaincy duties for the first three matches, while Samson might still feature as an Impact Player, depending on his recovery.
The Royals’ batting has taken a hit with the departure of Jos Buttler, leaving Shimron Hetmyer, Dhruv Jurel, Nitish Rana and Yashasvi Jaiswal to shoulder the scoring responsibilities. England’s Jofra Archer remains their primary bowling threat, but the lack of depth in their bowling unit could make it challenging to curb SRH’s aggressive approach.
SRH dominated both encounters with RR last season, clinching a thrilling one-run win in the league stage and a comprehensive 36-run victory in Qualifier 2. With momentum on their side and a balanced team at their disposal, SRH appear well-placed to extend their dominance over the Royals and set the tone for another strong IPL campaign.
