Rahul Gandhi ‘acting against’ India’s interests, should study Constitution, says Rajeev Chandrasekhar | India News
NEW DELHI: Kerala BJP president Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Saturday took a sharp dig at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of “acting against India’s interests” while claiming to stand for the Constitution.
He also asked him to read the Constitution properly before “misusing it to spread lies.”
In a Facebook post, Chandrasekhar, who is also a former Union minister of state, wrote: “To Rahul Gandhi, who is simultaneously promoting the Constitution and acting against the interests of India, I would like to say—before misusing the Constitution for your lies, you should try to read and study it.”
Chandrasekhar also criticised Congress MPs for allegedly spreading “communal hatred” during the debate on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, and claimed they would have faced legal action if not for the legal immunity granted to Members of Parliament.
He said the original Waqf law and its earlier amendments were the result of “appeasement politics” by previous Congress governments. In contrast, he praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for taking steps through the new amendment to restore property rights and make Waqf land more accessible to the poor in the Muslim community.
The Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, was passed in the Rajya Sabha on Friday after a 13-hour-long debate. It received 128 votes in favour and 95 against. The Lok Sabha had earlier passed the bill with 288 votes for and 232 against.
The Bill seeks to improve the administration and use of Waqf properties, aiming to make the system more transparent and beneficial for the community.
