Kia India has just launched the much anticipated Kia Syros sub-compact SUV in the Indian market with prices starting from Rs 8.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The bookings for the new Syros have already begun with the booking amount set at Rs 25,000 and the deliveries will begin in mid-February. The new Syros is Kia’s second sub-compact SUV in India, following the Sonet, and will be positioned between the Sonet and the Seltos in the brand’s lineup. The Syros will directly compete with the newly launched Skoda Kylaq, Hyundai Venue, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Tata Nexon and other sub-4-metre SUVs in the Indian market. The Syros is offered in six variants – HTK, HTK (O), HTK Plus, HTX, HTX Plus and HTX Plus (O). The sub-compact SUV is offered in eight colour options – Aurora Black Pearl, Frost Blue, Glacier White Pearl, Gravity Grey, Imperial Blue, Intense Red, Pewter Olive and Sparkling Silver. The HTK variant is priced at Rs 9 lakh for the Petrol MT option. The HTK(O) variant costs Rs 10 lakh for Petrol MT and Rs 11 lakh for Diesel MT.

The HTK+ variant is available at Rs 11.50 lakh for Petrol MT, Rs 12.80 lakh for Petrol AT, and Rs 12.50 lakh for Diesel MT. The HTX variant is priced at Rs 13.30 lakh for Petrol MT, Rs 14.60 lakh for Petrol AT, and Rs 14.30 lakh for Diesel MT. The HTX+ variant costs Rs 16 lakh for Petrol AT and Rs 17 lakh for Diesel AT. The HTX+ (ADAS) variant is priced at Rs 16.80 lakh for Petrol AT and Rs 17.80 lakh for Diesel AT (all prices ex-showroom).
The Kylaq is available in four variants – Classic, Signature, Signature Plus, and Prestige. Colour options include – White, Black, Silver, Red, Green, Grey and Blue.

Skoda Kylaq price list

The entry-level Classic variant is priced at Rs 7.89 lakh for the Petrol MT option. The Signature variant costs Rs 9.59 lakh for Petrol MT and Rs 10.59 lakh for Petrol AT. The Signature+ variant is priced at Rs 11.40 lakh for Petrol MT and Rs 12.40 lakh for Petrol AT. The Prestige variant costs Rs 13.35 lakh for Petrol MT and Rs 14.40 lakh for Petrol AT.
Kia Syros vs Skoda Kylaq: Engine options
The Kia Syros gets two engine options – a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder, turbo-petrol which puts out 120hp of power and 172Nm torque. It comes paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT. Another engine is a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, turbo diesel with 115hp of power and 250Nm torque. It comes paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic. The same petrol engine does the duty in the Hyundai i20 N-line, Venue and Kia Sonet. The same diesel engine also does the duty in the Hyundai Venue, Creta, Carens, Seltos and Sonet.

The Kylaq is offered with a single 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder, turbo petrol engine with 115 hp of power and 178 nm of torque. Gearbox options will include a 6-speed torque converter and a 6-speed manual gearbox. The same engine also does the duty in the Skoda Kushaq, Slavia, VW Virtus and Taigun.
Skoda Kylaq vs Kia Syros: Fuel-efficiency
The fuel efficiency of the Syros 1.0-litre turbo petrol variant is 18.2 km/l with the 6-speed manual transmission and 17.68 km/l with the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. For the diesel variant, the 6-speed manual transmission delivers 20.75 km/l, while the 6-speed torque converter automatic offers 17.65 km/l. The 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine in the Kylaq has 19.68 km/l with the manual and 19.05 km/l with the torque converter automatic. The manual transmission offers slightly better fuel efficiency.
