Kia Syros vs Skoda Kylaq: Engine options, fuel-efficiency, specifications compared

The Kia Syros and the Skoda Kylaq are the newest entrances to the sub-four-meter SUV segment. The Syros is the second sub-compact SUV after the Sonet by Kia in India and will be positioned between the Sonet and Seltos. The Kylaq on the other hand is based on the brand’s MQB-A0-IN platform and measures less than four metres in length. The new model will compete with already established rivals such as the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Brezza and also soon to be launched Kia Syros.

Skoda Kylaq vs Kia Syros: Engine
The Kia Syros gets two engine options – a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder, turbo-petrol which puts out 120hp of power and 172Nm torque. It comes paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT. Another engine is a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, turbo diesel with 115hp of power and 250Nm torque. It comes paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic. The same petrol engine does the duty in the Hyundai i20 N-line, Venue and Kia Sonet. The same diesel engine also does the duty in the Hyundai Venue, Creta, Carens, Seltos and Sonet.

The Kylaq is offered with a single 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder, turbo petrol engine with 115 hp of power and 178 nm of torque. Gearbox options will include a 6-speed torque converter and a 6-speed manual gearbox. The same engine also does the duty in the Skoda Kushaq, Slavia, VW Virtus and Taigun.
Skoda Kylaq vs Kia Syros: Fuel-efficiency
The fuel efficiency of the Syros 1.0-litre turbo petrol variant is 18.2 km/l with the 6-speed manual transmission and 17.68 km/l with the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. For the diesel variant, the 6-speed manual transmission delivers 20.75 km/l, while the 6-speed torque converter automatic offers 17.65 km/l. The 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine in the Kylaq has 19.68 km/l with the manual and 19.05 km/l with the torque converter automatic. The manual transmission offers slightly better fuel efficiency.

Skoda Kylaq vs Kia Syros: Price, variants
The Kylaq is available in four variants – Classic, Signature, Signature Plus, and Prestige. The entry-level Classic trim is priced at Rs 7.89 lakh, Signature MT is priced at Rs 9.59 lakh, AT variant is priced at Rs 10.59 lakh, Signature plus MT is priced at Re 11.40 lakh, AT variant is priced at Rs 12.40 lakh and the top-of-the-line Prestige trim is priced at Rs 13.35 lakh, AT trim is priced at Rs 14.4 lakh (all prices ex-showroom). The Syros is offered in six variants – HTK, HTK (O), HTK Plus, HTX, HTX Plus and HTX Plus (O). The prices will be announced on February 3, 2025.
