NEW DELHI: Defence minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday said India is undergoing a revolutionary transformation in the defence sector, with indigenous fighter jets, missile systems, and naval vessels not only securing borders but also drawing global attention.
Speaking at the indigenisation event and valedictory ceremony of Aero India 2025 in Yelahanka, Singh emphasized the exponential growth of the defence industry. “Aero India has reached heights that are not only unparalleled but historic,” he declared.
Reflecting on his experience at the event, he encapsulated it in three words: “Energy, energy, and energy.” He praised the enthusiasm displayed by Indian entrepreneurs, startups, and global participants, underscoring their role in India’s defence evolution.
Singh highlighted India’s shift from defence import dependence, recalling that a decade ago, 65-70% of defence equipment came from foreign sources. “Today, whether you call it resolution or a miracle, the same percentage is now being manufactured within the country,” he said.
India’s progress is evident in its rising defence exports. “We are exporting everything from small artillery to large platforms like the BrahMos and Akash missile systems to multiple countries,” Singh noted. He credited this success to stakeholders’ firm resolve, conviction, and trust, which have helped India build new and stronger global partnerships.
